Sleep- Overrated

Whoa- just emerging from the haze of the first three weeks with a newborn. Sooo... the birth was a bit more complicated than hoped and/or expected. I will not retell the lurid excruciating details here dear reader- you can contact me personally for that joy.

Lucy continues to grow like my law school debt and is becoming more aware of her surroundings every day. She focuses on lights and movement now and frowns when Zoe licks her in the face. I will be contacting MENSA shortly- surely they should be informed of these developments. She is so much like her dad it's scary- same slack open jaw when sleeping, same stubborn goat personality and same digestive tract. It looks like she could have inherited more from her long- suffering perfect mother for all the trouble she put me through (i.e. 40 pounds and 35 hours of labor). She did get my green-tinted skin- they thought she had jaundice in the hospital until they took a closer look at me and said, "oh, she's just got your...uh... lovely complexion."

Anyway, she's thriving and filling my days with lots of work and love.

Third Quarter- Preparing for the Fourth

Another doctor's appointment this week- another hook-up to the fetal monitor and blood pressure check. (Baby was once again performing cirque du soleil in my abdomen). The blood pressure was up a bit again- I blame this on Target and their sale on tiny adorable little baby socks- couldn't resist. So I got the same spill from the doc about inducing me on my due date. I will have to take matters into my own hands before this happens and attempt natural inducement. I will keep you posted on my stair climbing/ red raspberry leaf tea drinking inducement methods... worse comes to worse may have to take "the drink." Jackie knows of what I speak- the champagne/castor oil concoction.

A Tale of Victory and Chick Fil A

Was forced to go in this morning for another blood pressure check and suprise suprise the blood pressure was absolutely normal. Now my doc thinks that work is what was contributing to my high blood pressure earlier in the week. Of course I absolutley agree with her and asked whether she could write me a note - for life- that says I never have to work or pay my bills again. She seemed reluctant.

I celebrated my low blood pressure victory with Starbucks pumpkin spice latte and chick-fil-a. I blame D'Arlene completely for its intense craving for the chick- if it were up to me it would be nothing but lettuce and carrots. And grass fed beef of course.

Another Day Another Ten Pounds

So went back to the doctor yesterday where she proceeded to hook me up to a fetal monitor for 2 hours- why you ask- good question. She believes that because I have a baby the size of a VW bus that I must need to be induced or to have a c-section or some other crazy medical intervention. Clearly I just need Jenny Craig or rather D'Arlene (what Lee calls our poor fetus) needs Jenny.

August 28, 2009

Well here we are- about 4 weeks from the miracle of birth. Currently am size of a water buffalo (please see picture at right to confirm) and continue to grow (and sweat) at an alarming rate. Lee and I just about have the nursery ready to roll- despite numerous fits of anger by Lee in his attempt to install/construct various items of our child's room. We still haven't settled on names yet- but that's minor, what's in a name anyway? The important thing is that we have mountains and mountains of diapers- God Bless You Friends and Family! Will update fully later- perhaps when I am not at work.
